He asked this question randomly in our conversation so I was caught a little off guard. It took me about thirty minutes to come up with a reply. I had to think really hard because I wanted to give him a very real, honest answer. I would say I’m pretty experienced with relationships, since I haven’t been without talking/dating a guy longer than a month the past five years and I’ve talked to a handful of guys. I really know what I want now and I won’t settle for anything less.

So this is how I replied:

“Wellllll, let me think about this. Gotta be attracted to him of course. Personality is number one. Not afraid to be who he is. Have goals in his life and know what he wants. Gotta be passionate in something. Smart and educated. Someone who makes me want to be a better person and is gonna be my number one fan and believe in me. Someone who won’t give up on me. Someone who is spontaneous! Sweet. Knows how to treat a girl right, take care of her, and make her feel special and won’t slack on that. A gentleman! Someone who doesn’t forget the little things. Someone who actually cares about me. Someone who cares about other people too. Someone who I can be 100% myself around. Someone who I can have deep and intelligent conversations with and we won’t run out of things to say. Good listener. Some similar interests, some different. Haha, as you can see, I’ve thought a lot about this before. Haha. Long list, yeah? I know what I want, haha. Haha, I hope that doesn’t scare you, lol. You asked a little question with a big answer, haha.”

Today marks exactly two months

since my world turned upside down. Since you broke up with me. Even though it’s only been two months, it felt like forever ago.

I think it’s crazy coincidental our schedules worked out and we met up today, the exact two months after the break up, for the first time since that day. I didn’t think that our meet up would turn into a 1 1/2 hour catch up session. We’re both coping and doing what we said we were going to do, work at making ourselves better.

I seriously missed you. It just sucks to not talk to my best friend as much as I used to. When we talked today, it just felt so natural, like how it’s supposed to be. No walls, just so open. Genuine, “How are you?”s.

You asked me today, what I did after that night two months ago. I’ve been trying so hard to keep in the back of my mind, and when you brought it up, I couldn’t even talk about it. I was already holding back tears. It still hurts to think about.

You said today you’re still not over it and I realized today I’ve been lying to myself and I’m not over it either, over you. I mean, how could I? We spent more than four years together. You were my first love. First everything, for the most part. I already know that I’ll never stop loving you because I seriously care about you so much. But, right now, I know we can’t be together. We are at different places in our lives and we’re both trying to figure out who we are and what we want. The timing is just not right.

Who knows, maybe in the future, we could happen again. Maybe in a year, maybe when you graduate college, maybe even when I graduate college. Or maybe we won’t, and you’ll find someone or I’ll find someone and that’s who we’ll end up with and that’s okay. Who knows. Only God knows. And I know He knows what’s best for us. That’s why we are where we are right now.

But for right now

I’m moving on.
